Some cool quote from Tom about addiction and recovery.

Who are we, and who is Tom?

The therapists at Boulder Addictions Counseling are dedicated to developing a lasting and comprehensive relapse prevention plan for each of our clients. Our methods are grounded in a deep belief that everyone deserves a life of freedom and joy. The success and recovery of our clients is our most important goal!

We believe that each client is different and may not need to use every service we offer. At Boulder Addictions Counseling, we honor those differences and support each individual’s needs with specialized custom care. During an initial evaluation, we will work together with the client and his or her loved ones to discover the best treatment plan available.

HOLISTIC AND INTEGRATED

Boulder Addictions Counseling offers an Integrated Holistic Treatment approach. We focus on the whole person, not just the substance, and we tailor our treatment plans and packages to fit the needs of each individual. In an effort to cater to the comfort of our clients, all of our services are offered on-site. Having everything in one location, is not only convenient for the client, but allows for a sense of safety and containment. We take on a team approach toward recovery and our staff is very dedicated and passionate. We offer yoga, nutritional counseling, mindfulness training, acupuncture, trauma healing for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), family therapy, individual therapy, and group counseling. Our treatment modalities include Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention (MBRP), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI).

By offering a comprehensive, integrated team approach to addiction recovery, we find that clients enjoy faster, more meaningful and lasting recovery from addictive substances and behaviors. Our mindfulness-based approach reduces the risk of substituting one addiction for another, leading individuals to discover a life full of joyful sobriety.

As an agency we believe that addictions need to be addressed in a holistic, integrated manner. For true recovery to take place, all facets of life need to be examined. This includes not only the addiction to the substance or behavior but also nutrition, physical health, family and peer dynamics, and the underlying reasons the addiction began in the first place.

INDIVIDUAL & GROUP THERAPY

Boulder Addictions Counseling offers individual and group counseling to address issues concerning addiction. Boulder Addictions Counseling also offers a cutting-edge, mindfulness based approach to addiction. Besides addiction to alcohol and other drugs, Boulder Addictions Counseling works with clients to address process addictions such as gambling, overeating, Internet and related addictions.

Boulder Addictions Counseling offers a team approach, and depending on the particular situation, a client may meet with an addiction counselor to manage the detox and early recovery process. Additionally, they may meet with a different therapist to address past traumas or family and peer support issues. Each program at Boulder Addictions Counseling is individually tailored to meet the needs and support requirements, essential for a joyous recovery.

Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention

Boulder Addictions Counseling uses mindful awareness as a primary focus when learning to break habitual patterns. Our methods of mindfulness when facing addiction stem from a variation of Jon Kabat-Zinn’s Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, called Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention (MBRP) program. This empirically-based approach to addiction recovery is finding increasing success in leading recovery centers. We believe that paying attention to present-moment experiences with openness, curiosity, and willingness can help individuals suffering from addiction become aware of their cravings and triggers, which will in turn help break the cycle of their addictive behaviors.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

In addition, we incorporate traditional Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) skills, which use cognitive techniques to positively influence behavior.  The Cognitive Behavioral Therapy model has had numerous studies showing its efficacy and is the model endorsed by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA).

Motivational Interviewing

Boulder Addictions Counseling also uses Motivational Interviewing, a method that works on facilitating and engaging intrinsic motivation within the client to change behavior. Through this method, we help clients explore their own ambivalence and resistance to change.

YOGA

To address physical health, clients are encouraged to participate in our recovery – focused yoga classes that are held onsite.

NUTRITION

Through our nutrition program, we offer support with trained nutrition specialists who focus on proper diet. We can also make suggestions for supplements and vitamins that can aid in body and brain recovery that is often weakened through long-term use of substances. By supporting brain chemistry, some of the benefits of recovery can occur sooner and with less discomfort.

ACUDETOX

In addition, we offer support using a specialized acupuncture procedure—Acudetox. Acudetox uses acupuncture with very thin one-time-use, sterilized needles on the outside of each ear. Acudetox can reduce the symptoms associated with addiction recovery including withdrawal symptoms, cravings, and anxiety. Other chronic stress conditions such as PTSD, depression, and anxiety have also responded favorably. With regular participation, clients frequently find that cravings and urges are greatly diminished.
